You Don’t Need Expensive Gear to Ride a Horse

Like any other leisure activity, it’s necessary to wear the proper clothing when horse riding for comfort and safety. This gear does not have to be expensive as long as it is appropriate. The two most essential items for horse riding are the helmet and boots, although that doesn’t necessarily mean horse riding boots. An ASTM certified helmet is vital and can’t be substituted by other headgear. Otherwise, appropriate everyday clothing may be worn, such as trousers, as long as they are not baggy and have some stretch in them.

Trousers

NA-KD have a massive selection of trousers including elasticated joggers or cotton straight-leg trousers that are perfect for horse riding. Or, if you need something chic for the office or a night out, there are many elegant designs to choose from in a range of colours. Straight trousers or slight flares to full leg flares are all made from comfortable materials and in your size. Maybe stylish high waist trousers are more to your liking with a choice of flares or wide-leg suit pants or loose trousers. Whichever ones you choose, they are available in the NA-KD online fashion shop along with a line of trendy clothing and accessories.

The Importance of Trousers

Trousers are necessary when horse riding as they protect the rider from saddle burns and other injuries. When riding a horse, the soft, delicate skin of the inner thighs and calves is very susceptible to becoming chafed because of the constant rubbing against the saddle. Trousers also protect the legs against damage from things like tree branches when on a riding trail. The best type of trousers to wear is a close-fitting pair with a bit of stretch in them for the most comfort.

Wearing Shorts is Not a Good Idea

It might seem fun to wear shorts when it’s hot, but it’s not a good idea when you are horse riding. The legs are exposed to chafing and damage from thorns and branches if doing a trail ride. In fact, the extra sweat generated with friction on the saddle can cause chafing to happen more quickly.

Footwear

Footwear is essential when riding, but they don’t have to be expensive riding boots. Boots that cover the ankle and have no more than an inch (2.5cm) high heel are preferable because of the protection they give to the ankle, and the foot will not slide out of the stirrup. Hiking boots with thick treads are not recommended because they could get caught in the stirrup in the event of a fall and possibly end up with the rider being dragged along the ground.

Other Clothing, Hair and Jewellery

Long-sleeved shirts or tops that are not baggy are best to avoid catching on tree branches and to protect your arms if you fall. Long hair should be tied back, and jewellery such as finger rings and earrings should be avoided.

Enjoying horse riding doesn’t need to be expensive. Riders can wear everyday clothing as long as it is suitable and comfortable.
